Silvi Goldstein, PhD

Postdoctoral Clinician

Silvi Goldstein received her PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Rhode Island and completed her clinical internship at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Her clinical approach integrates a cognitive behavioral framework with person-centered and multicultural psychological principles. She strives to meet her clients with radical empathy, hear their needs, and conceptualize their goals within the context of their community. She tailors her approach to meet the needs of each individual client, drawing on research supported evidence-based therapies.

Dr. Goldstein’s expertise includes cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and “third wave” CBT therapies such as dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). She has received extensive training in evidence-based approaches to treat problems with alcohol and/or substances, traumatic-stress/PTSD, and for individuals who struggle with emotion-regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal relationships.

Her specialized treatment areas include:

  • Harm reduction approaches to substance use and risky behaviors

  • LGBTQIA+ identity issues

  • Interpersonal relationship issues

  • Poly and non-monogamy relationships

  • Kink aware / sex-positive

  • Sexual concerns

  • Traumatic stress and related issues

  • Emotion regulation difficulties

  • Borderline personality disorder

  • Couples

  • Young adults

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Goldstein is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Center of Alcohol and Addiction Studies in the Department of Public Health at Brown University. Her research is deeply rooted in her passion for social justice and aspiration to lessen the burden of social inequities among underserved communities and focuses on harm reduction and trauma informed treatment approaches, substance-related health inequities, and community-based methods. She is currently working towards completing requirements for clinical licensure and is receiving clinical supervision from Dr. Danny Delaney.

Outside of work, Silvi enjoys making her family and friends laugh, being outdoors, gardening, creative projects (she’s written a play!), Survivor, CrossFit, traveling, and obsessing over her two hairless cats.
